Pettitte Nearly Perfect

Written by Mike on September 1, 2009

Andy Pettitte pitched as well as he has pitched in years for the Yankees in game one of a series against the Orioles. He retired the first 20 batters in a row en route to the win.

An error by Jerry Hairston Jr. broke up the perfect game in the 7th inning, and the Yankees went on to win 5-1. The win gives Pettitte a 12-6 record and he has been a very solid number 3 starter for the Yankees this season. His post season experience will be a major advantage coming down the stretch as the Yankees look to win the World Series in their first season in the new Yankee stadium (ironically- they also won the World Series in the first season in the old Yankee Stadium).

This is promising for the Yankees as Joba is on a severe inning count and has been very ineffective of late.
