It is crazy what can happen when you go away for a week. Over the past week, the following events happened in the MLB:

->Mark Buehrle pitched a perfect game against the Tigers. It was only the 18th one in major league history. The timing and the way it happened was kind of ironic. It happened one week after the all-star break, during the week prior to the All-Star break San Francisco’s Jonathan Sanchez would have pitched a perfect game if not for an error in the 8th inning. He gave up no hits and no walks in a dominating performance. For Buehrle’s perfect game, DeWayne Wise (who just entered the game as a defensive replacement) robbed Gabe Kapler of a home run with an amazing catch.

->Matt Holliday was traded to the Cards for a super list of prospects. The Cards should finally have the protection they need for Pujols, although Holliday has not been the same since his Colorado days– maybe a return to the NL will do the trick.

->Brandon Inge of the Tigers tore his left patella tendon and vows to play through the injury. I think that this may not be the smartest move by the All-Star 3B. A tear in the patella tendon usually is pretty serious.

->The Yankees are now in first place by 2.5 games after winning every game since the All-Star break. Their 7 game win streak with the Red Sox 5 game losing streak was the cause of the flop. I expect this race to be very close through the rest of the season… and don’t count out the Rays.
