The Tennessee Volunteers keep on winning. But winning doesn’t come easy, and the Vols are certainly showing that time and time again. The Vols are 5-0 so far this season, let’s take a look at how they got there.
Week 1: 9/1 vs Appalachian State. The Vols trailed 13-6 heading into the 4th quarter. They were able to tie it in the 4th and win in overtime, 20-13. Not pretty, but a win is a win.
Week 2: 9/10 vs Virginia Tech. The Vols opened up the game trailing 14-0 after the first quarter. They responded with a 24-0 second quarter on their way to a 45-24 win.
Week 3: 9/17 vs Ohio. The Vols actually never trailed in this game, but it was much too close for comfort. With a score of 21-19 after the third quarter, Ohio, a 4-touchdown underdog, was looking for the upset. The Vols kept the lead and won 28-19.
Week 4: 9/24 vs Florida. Not surprisingly, the Vols were trailing in this game, down 21-3 at halftime. They were able to outscore Florida 38-7 in the second half en route to a 38-28 win.
That brings us to Week 5 at Georgia. The Vols were trailing 24-14 heading into the fourth quarter. That’s when things started to get interesting.
First, with 3:04 to go in the game, Georgia had a 24-21 lead with the ball on their own 5-yard line. Then this happened:

Georgia didn’t let that mishap discourage them. With 17 seconds left in the game, Jacob Eason connected with Riley Ridley for a 47-yard touchdown pass.

With 11 seconds in the game, surely Georgia was going to win the game? Not exactly. Joshua Dobbs was able to channel his inner Aaron Rodgers to connect with Jauan Jennings on a 43-yard hail mary to win the game as time expired.
The Vols did it again. They crawled out of the gate to an early deficit for the 4th time in five weeks, but were able to complete the comeback and win the game. College football is all about winning. If Tennessee wants any chance to make the playoffs, they must keep winning.
I can’t imagine starting behind in seemingly every game is always going to work out for them, but as the calendar turns to October, they are sitting at 5-0, and if you are a fan, you can’t complain about that.
