#2 Memphis Goes Down

The Tigers move onto the Elite 8, only it’s not the Memphis Tigers– it’s the Missouri Tigers. Tonight the #2 seed in the West Region of the Men’s NCAA tournament lost by 11 points (102-91). Memphis had a slow start and was never able to recover in the game. Last year they went to the Finals where they lost in overtime to Kansas. After losing their starting line up to the NBA draft, one could say that Memphis was lucky to get a #2 seed in the tournament. But after cruising to win another Conference USA title and winning 25 in row before the tournament, Memphis was certainly on top of its game entering the tournament. Today their defense struggled (it was the only game that they gave up more than 80 points all season), and that was the reason for their demise. I must say that Missouri played extremely well, and it definately made for an interesting game. It was a disappointment for me as I had them in the Final Four. Now I feel that Connecticut will beat Missouri and make the Final Four.

In other NCAA news, Villanova trounced Duke, beating them by 23 points (77-54). Villanova looked extremely good and Pittsburgh struggled in another win today. I am more and more liking my pick of Villanova in the Final Four. Villanova controlled the game the entire time, especially the second half, and outside of the first few minutes, there was never a question in my mind that they would win the game.
