2010 MLB Predictions

It’s that time of the year. April is here and with April comes baseball! There are so many story lines that are built up for the 2010 MLB season: Can the Yankees repeat? Can the Braves make it back to the playoffs? Is Strasburg the real deal? How good is Jayson Heward? How good is Austin Jackson? I could go on and on with these questions, and that is the greatest part of baseball – you never know what to expect.

  1. Seattle will NOT win the AL West. Try last place…

Also– No way SF has a better year than Arizona.

    1. Seattle will not come in last place this season. They added several key players this off-season:

-Figgins is going to bring versatility and a great compliment to Ichiro
-Don’t underestimate Milton Bradley as the clean-up hitter
-Cliff Lee (don’t forget he has proven himself in the AL with a CY Young) in the #2 spot behind King Felix is a dominant 1-2

I don’t have faith in the Diamondbacks pitching at all for this season. Webb is an injury waiting to happen (actually he just had another cortisone shot today), Haren notoriously crumbles in the second half, Edwin Jackson was a bust his whole career except for last year, I am not high on Ian Kennedy, and Rodrigo Lopez has never proved anything in the majors. They lost a dominant closer in Valverde and they lost their best young pitcher in Scherzer

  3. I do believe that all of the key players that you listed will bust this year.

It is tough to not look past their top 2 starters and see that the rest of their rotation is terrible.

I wasn’t necessarily defending Arizona, but please look at SF’s lineup. Other than Pablo Sandoval (who will come back to earth this season) how are they not going to score the least amount of runs in the NL? Rowand, Molina, Renteria, DeRosa, Shierholtz, Huff, and Sanchez? No thanks

    1. I don’t think that the Seattle players will all be complete busts. There 1 and 2 starters are above most 1-2 combos in the league and I do think that Rowland-Smith will surprise people in the 3 spot of their rotation.

I agree that the Giants offense is relatively weak, but I think it is better than the offense they had for their third place finish last year. DeRosa, Huff and Molina will have pretty good years and Sandoval is not a bust- he will improve on last year’s numbers.

  5. Mike,

How could you not pick Roy Halladay for NL CY young? It`s been a slow start
for Teixeira but I also think he will have a monster year. As for NL pick
I liked that you had the balls to pick against King Albert but I can`t see
    him to taking it down.

  7. You’re right, I did underestimate Bradley. I thought he would wait until at least May to start flipping off fans.

“Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu had a closed-door meeting Monday with outfielder Milton Bradley. Bradley is 1-for-22 on the season and displayed his middle finger to fans in Texas on Friday after being taunted. “He opened up and talked about the pressure,” Wakamatsu said of their meeting. “We talked a lot about relying on us to alleviate some of that and he doesn’t have to carry this club by himself. So, he responded to it and was open.” We’ll see.”
